Cougars Golf Finishes 7th in Walters State Classic

Cleveland State's golf team competed in the Walters State Fall Classic with ten other teams.

The Cougars finished 7th overall in the two-day tournament.

"Not the finish we had hoped for, but we are making progress," head coach Shannon Skipper said. "Our second day was better than the first with our lowest team score of the year at 317."

Owen Kreuger shot the best score for the Cougars in the tournament finishing tied in 20th overall. He shot a 79 in day one and a 78 in day two. Last tournament he finished second overall for Cleveland State. He finished at +13, seven strokes better than his last tournament.

The leader for Cleveland State in their first tournament was Reese McFatter at +15. He finished 21 strokes over par this tournament in 38th place overall. He struggled day one shooting 88, but found his groove shooting the best for the Cougars in day two with 77 strokes.

Finishing in second for the Cougars was Logan Gadd. He ended up tied in 35th place. He improved the most between the two tournaments going from +39 in his first collegiate action to nearly half that score at +20 in the Waters State Fall Classic.

Andrew McCarver finished tied in 42nd place at +26 with Kadyn Copeland right behind him at +28.

"This was a tough course with very fast greens," Skipper said. "The greens were faster than anything we have played on so far this fall."

Cleveland State participates in two more tournaments this fall with both coming later this month.

"We will be working hard over the next week as we prepare for our last two tournaments of the fall which will be back-to-back," Skipper said.

The Cougars golf team travels next to Oak Ridge, TN to compete in the Atomic City Classic at the Oak Ridge Country Club starting Sunday, October 22 at 8 a.m.
