
Cougar Softball Wins Two vs Glen Oaks Community College
With scores of 11-4 and 8-5 Cleveland State bested Glen Oaks Community College at Cougar Softball Field on Saturday, March 8. Mercedes Brazzell, who pitched in relief in both games, winning both moving her record to 2-1 on the season.
Currently the Cougars have an overall record of 6-8 and a conference mark of 2-2.
Game One Recap
With the score knotted at four in the bottom of the sixth inning Cleveland State exploded for seven runs for the 11-4 win. The Cougars used singles from Carissa Montgomery, Lilly Griffitts, Desiree Nance and Heidi Johnson with doubles from Ava Layne and Layla Pettigrew and finally two walks from Destini Jensen and Skye Eddington.
Brazzell pitched two innings in relief and did not allow a hit for her first win of the afternoon. Cleveland State's hitting attack included four hits off the bat of Nance, three from Pettigrew, two each from Montgomery and Johnson while Griffitts, Layne and Jensen had one each.
Game Two Recap
Ahead 2-1 at the end of the first inning the Cougars fell behind 4-2 until the fourth when they scored two on a double by Brooklyn Deaver plating Pettigrew and Taylor Hancock who had singled. In the fifth, Glen Oaks took the lead 5-4 scoring one with Cleveland State answering quickly in their half of the fifth as Layne singled home Nance, who doubled with two outs.
In the sixth, the Cougars added three for the final 8-5 score as Montgomery drove home Hancock who singled, and Griffitts doubled to score Amiyah Williams, who walked, and Laila Perry that reached base with a single.
Brazzell tossed four innings for her second win on the day.

The Cougars are scheduled for a home doubleheader on Monday, March 10 with games scheduled to start at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. EST. Games are played on the campus of Cleveland State at Cougar Softball Field.
