
Softball Wins Four vs Pellissippi State
Cougar softball finished their four-game conference matchup vs Pellissippi State on Friday, March 28
winning a road doubleheader 5-3 and 15-3. The wins were a follow-up to a doubleheader home win
against the Panthers on Wednesday March 26 with scores of 4-1 and 12-5.
On a six-game winning streak Cleveland State has a conference record of 8-6 and an overall mark of
12-14.
Game One Recap on Friday March 28
Sierra Howard won her fifth game of the season as the Cougars banged out 11 hits scoring one run
in the first, two in the second and two in the third for the eventual 5-3 win. In the first inning Layla
Pettigrew singled home Desiree Nance who doubled with two outs. Then in the second, Taylor
Hancock led off with a homerun while Carissa Montgomery came home to score on an error after she
singled. Cleveland State's scoring ended in the third as Milan Pemberton singled home
Pettigrew and Hancock who both singled.
Nance, Ava Layne, Pettigrew and Hancock each had two hits while Montgomery, Destini Jensen and
Pemberton each had one. Howard struck out eight in the win.
Game Two Recap on Friday March 28
Game two saw the Cougars go five innings in the 15-3w in scoring four runs in the second, seven in
the fourth and four in the fifth. The game was highlighted by four Cleveland State homeruns; a solo
shot from Montgomery with Hancock adding another homerun on the day plating two runs and finally
a three-run homer each from Pettigrew and Skye Eddington.
Mercedes Brazzell joined Howard in winning her fifth game as she tossed 4.1 innings with Cami
Wade closing it out inducing two outs to end the game.
Nance had three hits with Brooklyn Deaver, Heidi Johnson, Hancock, Eddington and Montgomery
each with two while Layne, Pettigrew and Laila Perry had one hit each for a game hit total of 16.
What's Next
The Cougars are scheduled to travel to Morristown, Tennessee on Tuesday April 1 to play a
conference doubleheader vs Walters State with game times scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. EST.
Currently Cleveland State and Walters are tied in the conference each with 8-6 records.
