Lady Cougs Post Ferocious Comeback

Lady Cougs Post Ferocious Comeback

It was a thriller of a match in Harriman, Tenn. on Monday with a valiant comeback effort by Cleveland State Volleyball, but the Lady Cougars fell 3-1 to the Lady Raiders on Wednesday evening.

In the first set, the Lady Cougars suffered a 25-20 defeat. Sydney Allen was able to record three kills in the set. The second set, Cleveland State was unable to contain the Roane State offensive attack and fell 25-17. Loryn Wilson caught fire in the second set offensively for the Lady Cougars, though, recording four kills in the frame.

The third set, Cleveland State stormed back to put pressure on the Lady Raiders, winning 25-23. After Roane State was able to build a 15-12 lead, the Lady Cougars mounted a comeback to tie the set at 18-18 after Grace Wiggins recorded a key block.

The fourth set went down to the wire with neither team finding an edge, but eventually the Lady Cougars suffered a heartbreaking 30-28 defeat. The lead changed hands 10 times in the fourth set, including five times in which the two teams needed extra points to determine a winner. McCoy Hensley recorded five kills in the set which were crucial in keeping Cleveland State's push alive.

"We clearly know how to battle late in a match, but we need to be better about starting strong early," said head coach Alizabeth Atnip.

The Lady Cougars will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Walters State. Match time is set for 6:30 PM.
