Sophomores Power Lady Cougs Past Roane State in Home Opener

The Cleveland State Women's Basketball team opened their season in grand fashion on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lady Raiders of Roane State 56-46 on their home floor. The Lady Cougars impressively took the lead right from the tip-off and never relinquished it.

The sophomores on the team showcased their leadership and led the charge for the Lady Cougars. Last year's TCCAA Player of the Year and NJCAA All-American Asjah Harrell led all scorers with 18 points while also dishing out a team-best three assists and posting six rebounds along with five steals. Michaela Bennefield recorded a double-double, scoring 16 points paired with a team-high 10 boards. Newcomer Emma Harig also played a key role in the win, scoring 10 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and blocking two shots.

Cleveland State will continue their three-game homestand on Wednesday as they play host to Walters State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
