
Cougar Softball Splits with Motlow State
Cougar softball split a road conference doubleheader vs Motlow State on Saturday, April 5 winning
game one 8-3 while losing 3-1 in game two. Currently Cleveland State has a conference record of 9-
9 with an overall mark of 13-17.
The Cougars are in sixth place in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association with 10
games remaining on the schedule, which are all conference contests.
Game One
Sierra Howard won her sixth game of the season going the distance in giving up only four hits. Both
the Cougars and Motlow scored single runs in the first with Cleveland State adding another in the
fourth for a 2-1 lead going into the seventh inning.
The Cougars used six hits and a walk to score six runs in the seventh for the eventual 8-3 win.
Desiree Nance drove home her second run of the game while Heidi Johnson and Taylor Hancock
each plated two. Lilly Griffitts added one RBI with a single to center field.
All total, Cleveland State used nine hits in the win as Carissa Montgomery, Nance and Johnson each
had two while Griffitts, Layla Pettigrew, Hancock and Milan Pemberton had one hit each.
Game Two
Down 3-0 going into the sixth inning the Cougars scored their lone run in the 3-1 loss as Pettigrew
doubled home Nance, who singled with one out. Cleveland State had seven hits led by Nance
who had two while Brooklyn Deaver, Pettigrew, Johnson, Hancock and Skye Eddington each had
one.
What's Next
The Cougars are scheduled to travel to Harriman, Tennessee on Wednesday, April 9 to play a
conference doubleheader vs Roane State with game times scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. EST. Roane is
positioned in third place in the conference with an 11-5 mark and an overall season record of 18-15.
