Cougars Split Double Header Against Gordon State
The Cleveland State baseball team split their doubleheader against Gordon State on Thursday. The Cougars had a comeback win in game 1, with a final score of 7-6 while they narrowly lost the second game, 3-1.
Starting the top of the 6th inning down 6-1 the Cougars charged back with unrelenting force, rattling off 6 runs to take a 7-6 lead in the 7th inning. The Cougars protected their lead and ended up securing the win, taking game 1 in the doubleheader.
The second game was a defensive battle between the two squads. The 0-0 tie was broken in the 3rd inning when Noah Peterson reached base on an error by the Gordon State third baseman, Trey Vanderpool was able to score off of the error. From then on the Cougars were unable to add anything more to their score, while Gordon State answered with 3 runs throughout the 3rd and 4th innings. A lack of action followed the 4th inning and the game resulted in a 3-1 Gordon State Victory.
Head Coach Mike Policastro commented, "Our pitching was solid all day but we were unable to get much offense going. Logan Peterson had 3 hits on the day and Noah Peterson also had 3 hits but we need to get more guys in the lineup going."
This puts Cleveland State baseball's record at 1-2 and they'll look to improve as they travel to Lake Point to take on Georgia Highlands College on February 13th.
