
Cougars Take Doubleheader from Bryan College
Cleveland State took on Bryan College in a doubleheader on Monday, winning both games by a score of 12-0 and 8-1.
On the mound for the Cougars in game one was Jackson Etter who pitched 4 shutout innings, walking 3 while striking out 7. Etter received the win continuing his perfect record to 7-0. Noah Peterson came on in the 5th inning, walking 1 and striking out another.
On the offensive side, the Cougars scored 12 runs off of 11 hits in the mercy ruled game. Rhett Baldwin had a 3 RBI double while Joey Roberson had a 3-run home run. Cameron Payne also blasted a home run in the first matchup, scoring Baldwin. Hunter Oliver had a 2 RBI triple on the day as well. All of this happen in the first three innings against the Lions, eventually ending the game by a mercy ruling in the 5th inning.
Corey Linz started game two for the Cougars, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing 1 earned run, walking 1 and striking out 2. Jared McDonald came on in relief and pitched 1.2 innings, striking out 3 batters. Brock Browning, Tyler Zak and Lucas Sykes all entered the game combining for 3 innings and 5 strikeouts.
Cleveland State scored 8 runs off of 10 hits, thanks to RBI's by Noah Hill, Joey Roberson, Noah Peterson and Trey Martin. Hill and Roberson each contributed a sacrifice fly while Noah Peterson finished the game with a stolen base. Overall, the Cougars finished with 6 RBI's, 10 drawn walks and only 6 strikeouts. Bryan College's lone run came in the 3rd inning, when the Lions crossed one across the plate off of a wild pitch. The Cougars went on to win game two, thus sweeping the doubleheader, by a score of 8-1.
The sweep moves Cleveland State's record to 29-14 (9-9). They'll look to continue their winning ways as they look to extend their 7 game winning streak on the road against Southwest Tennessee. The three game series against the Saluqis will start on Friday, April 13th at 3:00 PM.
