
Cougars Lose Home Opener Double Header
The Cougars lost both games of their season home opener double header this afternoon.
Cleveland State (0-3) went down 11-4 in game one and 5-1 in game two against the sixth ranked Georgia Highlands Chargers (3-0).
Although losing by seven runs in game one, the Cougars took a 2-1 lead into the final inning before the Chargers put a 10 spot on the board. Game two Georgia Highlands led the entire game with Cleveland State taking until the fourth inning to get their first hit.
Max Owens pitched five innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out five and walking four in the first game of the double header. Eric Enerlich pitched a scoreless sixth inning striking out a batter. Ryan Wallace suffered the loss as one of the three pitchers combining to allow the 10-run final frame.
Turner Junkins started game two allowing three earned runs and four hits in his three innings of work, striking out three and walking a batter. Tyler Pickens went two innings allowing a run on four hits while striking out two and walking two. Will Webb threw the final two innings allowing no earned runs on one hit while striking out two.
Ty Denton doubled twice and drove in two in the first game, and was 5-6 overall on the day while also scoring twice. Nelson McKnight added a double in game one. Brogan Jones and Nate Dunfee each drove home a run in game one while Caleb Gipson had the only run batted in for the Cougars in game two.
Cleveland State heads to Vincennes University next on Tuesday looking for their first win of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
