Highlanders High Powered Offense Tops Cougars
Cleveland State couldn't keep up with the Gordon State College offense.
The undefeated Highlanders (5-0) put up 18 runs, while the Cougars (0-4) were able to cross the plate six times.
The first run went to Cleveland in the top of the first, and after three innings the game was tied up at five, but from that point on the Cougars could only put one more run across the plate while Gordon State continued the offensive onslaught.
Brogan Jones went 2-3 scoring two runs while driving in another to go along with a triple for the Cougars. Evan Goins doubled on the day and drove in one. Ty Denton and Nate Dunfee each had an RBI.
The Highlanders offense went 12-30 in the game with 15 RBI and benefitted from 15 walks from Cougars pitching. Cleveland State sent eight different pitchers to the mound.
Next up for the Cougars is a four-game weekend home series hosting Vincennes University. Game one is Friday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. A double header will be played Saturday starting at noon with the final game Sunday at noon.
