
Cougars Sweep Double Header Against Pellissippi State
Cleveland State took both games of today's double header with Pellissippi State.
The Cougars (18-15, 10-8) won game one 5-2, then went on to defeat the Panthers (20-12, 11-4) ending the game early in the fifth inning by the ten run-rule with an 11-0 shutout in game two.
JC Armour (2-0) started the first game of the day picking up the win throwing three innings allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three and walking three batters. Eric Enerlich picked up the save pitching the final inning shutting out the Panthers despite walking one batter.
Catcher Jacob Cooper hit a two-run homer in the third inning for his first of the season. First baseman Ryan Long doubled and shortstop Aiden McClary went 2-3 scoring once and driving in a run.
Will Webb (W, 1-1) earned his first victory of the season in game two pitching the first three innings allowing no earned runs on four hits while striking out four and walking a batter.
Centerfielder Caleb Gipson, designated hitter Ty Denton and catcher Will Phipps each homered in the game. First baseman Nelson McKnight went 2-2, doubling, scoring three times and drawing a walk. Gipson drove in three runs while Phipps, shortstop Jon Jon Read and right fielder Riley Mahan each hit home a pair of runs.
Cleveland State hits the road next for a three-game series at Southwest Tennessee (22-11, 10-5). Game one is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. and the final two games are slated for Friday with a noon first pitch.
