
Cougars Sweep Double Header Against BCA
Cleveland State won two against Brett Carroll Academy.
The Cougars (6-7, 2-1) won by a run 3-2 in game one and shutout BCA 9-0 for the double header sweep.
"Got two really good starts today," Cleveland State head baseball coach Aaron Bryant said. "It's nice to see the offense have good at bats all day today and we came through in the last inning to get the win in the first game."
Game one's starter was Braden Suggs going four innings allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out two and not walking a batter. Parker Coe came into pitch two innings also allowing one unearned run on one hit while striking out four and walking a batter. The win went to Brody Casteel (W, 1-1) who pitched the final inning allowing no runs or hits while striking out a batter and not walking anyone.
Third baseman Evan Goins doubled going 2-3 while centerfielder Nate Dunfee, first baseman Aiden McClary and catcher Jacob Cooper each drove in a run. Rightfielder Caleb Gipson went 2-3 and scored a run.
Isaiah Verge (W, 1-0) started game two earning the victory pitching the first four innings shutting out BCA not allowing a run or hit while striking out two and walking a batter. Logan Ozias, JC Armour and Will Webb each pitched an inning to finish out the double header.
Goins hit a three-run homer in the game, McClary drove in two and leftfielder Nate Severance also drove in a pair. Gibson and Severance each doubled.
Cleveland State returns to conference play this weekend going to Columbia State (3-9, 2-0) for a three-game series. First pitch Friday is at 2 p.m. and Saturday's double header will begin at 1 p.m.
