Lady Cougars Fall to Chattanooga State in Region VII Tournament

Cleveland State Community College is currently hosting the 2018-2019 NJCAA Region VII Women's Volleyball Championship. The first match of the tournament saw the #3 seed Lady Cougars take on the #2 seed Lady Tigers of Chattanooga State Community College. Chattanooga State defeated Cleveland State by a match score of 3-0 to move on in the tournament.

The first set was a closely contested affair as the largest lead of the set was only five points. That lead was held by Chattanooga State as they continued a close yet steady lead over the Lady Cougars for the rest of the set. Cleveland State put in a great effort, however, as they were able to bring the score within two points, 20-18 before eventually losing the first set by a score of 25-19.

The second set sang a similar tune as Chattanooga State jumped out to an early lead. The Lady Cougars were making smart plays and putting consistent points on the board but again it was enough as the Lady Tigers barely edged the Lady Cougars, 25-21 to take a 2-0 match score.

The third and what ended up being the final set saw the Lady Cougars come roaring back to take an early 14-9 lead over Chattanooga State. Cleveland State steadily held their lead but the Lady Tigers were slowly gaining on them. Late in the third set, the Lady Cougars found themselves in a 22-22 tie before the Lady Tigers took the lead, winning set three, 25-22. Chattanooga State wins the match, 3-0.

The number two seed Chattanooga State moves on to face the number one seed Walters State on Saturday, October 27th at 2:00 PM.

The Lady Cougars finished their season with a regular season record of 12-13 (0-4). Caylea Duckett ranked 2nd in the TCCAA in digs per set and 5th in total digs. Duckett also ranked in 5th place in assists per set with 2.66 assists. Aly Lemons had the highest hitting percentage in the TCCAA with a .293.

This completes the second season ever for women's volleyball in Cleveland State Community College history.
