Cleveland State Community College's women's basketball team opened their conference play over the weekend, facing Dyersburg State Community College on Friday and Southwest Tennessee Community College on Saturday.

The Lady Cougars held a close lead over Dyersburg State in the first quarter at 17-14. They continued to hold their lead, but the Lady Eagles of Dyersburg State stayed within close reach as the Lady Cougars went into the locker rooms at halftime with a two point 30-28 lead. The Lady Cougars started to blow the door wide open in the third quarter, extending their lead by 13 points as they entered the fourth quarter with a 53-40 lead. They kept pouring it on in the final quarter of the game, shooting up to a 61-48 lead over the Lady Eagles. Cleveland State wouldn't let up and rolled to a 76-59 victory over Dyersburg State.

The Saturday match did not go the Lady Cougars way however, as they lost to Southwest Tennessee by a score of 75-52. Cleveland State did keep it close in the first half, knotting it up at 16 points a piece at the end of the first quarter. The two squads continued to battle back and fourth in the second quarter, but it was Southwest Tennessee who entered the half with a 32-26 lead. It was at the start of the third quarter when Southwest Tennessee started to run away with the game. The Lady Saluqis jumped out to a ten point lead early in the third quarter and proceeded to push their lead even further, taking a 52-36 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Cougars did their best to stop the bleeding but were unsuccessful as they eventually lost by a score of 75-52.

The Lady Cougars are now 2-2 (1-1) on the season. They'll look to get back in the win column as they face Snead State on Tuesday, at home, at 5:30 PM.
