LADY COUGARS BEAT ATLANTA METRO FOR FIRST WIN
The Lady Cougars traveled to Atlanta on Saturday to take on the Lady Trailblazers of Atlanta Metro. Pulling ahead in the second quarter, Cleveland State was able to get into the win column by a 59-39 final.
The ladies struggled in the first quarter, as their shooting was as cold as the gym they were playing in. Their hosts would lead 11-7 after the first ten minutes of action. Cleveland State would find their legs in their transition game during the second and third quarters, as they outscored their opponents 39-15 to build a 46-26 lead going into the final quarter.
Keya Jenkins (pictured) came off the bench for the Lady Cougars and provided the spark to get the team rolling. She tallied 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from the free throw line. She completed a double-double with eleven rebounds to go along with two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.
Leisa Butler and Abby Hubert also reached double digits with 11 and 10 points. Butler backed up Jenkins with eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Julia Gaither led the Lady Cougars with four assists.
