The No. 7 Lady Cougars defeated Columbia State 78-64 and will go on to face No. 2 Motlow State at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the tournament quarterfinals
Cleveland State jumped out to a 14 point, 28-14 lead over Columbia State in the first quarter. By halftime, they had secured a 43-27 lead.
The third quarter proved to be the only one that the Lady Cougars were outscored by their opponents, with Columbia State putting up 25 points and allowing them only 20. Still, Cleveland State went into the fourth quarter with a 63-52 lead.
The Lady Cougars scored 15 more points in that final quarter, while Columbia State put up 12 points of their own.
Abby Hubert led Cleveland State in scoring with 24 points, with Leisa Butler putting up 19 points. The Cleveland squad had 40 rebounds in the game, 19 assists and eight turnovers.
