LADY COUGARS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH WIN
The Lady Cougars opened the conference portion of the season with a hard fought 62-53 triumph over the Lady Saluquis of Southwest Tennessee.
Cleveland trailed after the first quarter of play by one, but took control of the game in the second frame as they went into the locker room at the half up 29-24. They would see the lead rise to as high as ten points in the second half before settling for the 62-53 win.
It was a balanced scoring night for the squad with six players scoring as many as six points in the contest. Only two Lady Cougars reached double digits led by Julia Gaither with 11 points and Leisa Butler with 10.
Keya Jenkins stayed steady with nine points and a team high 12 rebounds. Abby Hubert finished with eight while Catherine Davis and Asia Currie each finished with six points. Porchia Turner helped out on the boardds with six rebounds.
