Buzzer-Beat Sinks Cougars vs. Jackson State

It was a heartbreaking loss for Cleveland State on their home floor on Saturday afternoon, as they suffered a 78-76 loss at the hands of undefeated Jackson State. They are now 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

It was a buzzer-beating layup by the Green Jays' Kavion Hancock, who led all scorers with 28 points, that sunk the Cougars in the TCCAA matchup. Cleveland State led by as many as 13 midway through the second half, but were unable to contain a ferocious Jackson State comeback.

It was a breakout day for Jadakiss Williams. The sophomore transfer scored a career-best 19 total points while also grabbing five boards and recording a steal and a block. Demonte Person had 13 points paired with a game-high six assists, while Jaquez Hicks scored 13 points of his own to stretch his double-digit scoring streak to seven games. Hicks also led the team with 11 rebounds. Jon Morgan was the fourth Cougar to reach double-figures with 10 total points paired with 5 boards, a block, and a steal.

The Cougars will be back in action next Saturday as they travel to Gadsden State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 ET.
