ANNA YELL PITCHES, HITS LADY COUGARS IN SWEEP OF MOTLOW STATE

The Lady Cougars were able to pick up their two first conferencce wins on the season as they picked up a 7-1 and 11-3 triumphs.  Anna Yell was instrumental in both wins as she won the first game in the pitcher's circle, and then ended the 2nd game in "grand" fashion as she belted a grand slam to close out the game.

Motlow would score first in the first game on a RBI double to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Lady Cougars would take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd as Savannah Rogers would drive in Shayla Phillips with and RBI single.  Then, Makala Strickland would score as her and Phillips pulled off a double steal.  Rogers and Olivia Harri would both score in the fourth on a fielder's choice by Kaylee Hughes and a Madison Dasher single.  Yell would double in the fifth inning to drive in both Katie Dinger and Rogers.

For the game, Dinger, Phillips, and Rogers each had two hits.  Yell picked up the win in the circle, going seven innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, with no walks and six strikeouts.

Motlow would put up a two runs int he top of the first to take the early lead in game two.  Cleveland would tie the score in the bottom of the 2nd as they scored a Strickland bombed a two run home run over the centerfield fence.  The Lady Cougars would take the lead in the 3rd as Yell and Phillips scored on a Strickland fielder's choice and a Katie Davis single.  They would add three more in the 4th on a Yell double, and a Hughes two run home run.  Then in the fifth with two outs, Yell ripped her grand slam, scoring Harris, Dinger, and Lex Vogel ahead of her to end the game.

In game two, Yell had three hits with five RBIs.  Hughes had two hits with 2 RBIs while Strickland had the home run and three RBIs.  Macy Smith got the win in game two as she went five innings, giving up five hits, three runs (one earned), with no walks and three strikeouts.
