LADY COUGARS BREAK OUT FOR DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

The Lady Cougar softball secured twoconference road wins Saturday afternoon as they beat the Lady Raiders of Roane State by axcores of 5-3 annd 17-11.  

The Lady Cougars struck for two runs iun the first inning of the first game as Katie Dinger scored on an Anna Yell double who then scored on an Amber Atkins double.  Dinger was a perfect four for four at the plate, scoring two runs.  Yell and Atkins each had two hits with Atkins driving in two runs.  Yell was the winning pitcher, going the first five innings, surrendering three runs (two earned), four hits, one walk while striking out four hitters.  Macy Smith earned the save with two innings of one hit ball no walks, and four strikeouts.

In game two, five early erros by the ladies gave Roane a 9-5 lead after the first three innings.  The Lady Cougars would strike for six runs in the fourth to take lead, but Roane would tie the game going into the sixth inning.  Cleveland would scor eonce in the sixth and then five more times in the seventh to secure the victory.

The Lady Cougars laced out 19 hits ins the game led by Makala Strickland who was a perfect four for four at the plate with a double and three RBIs.  McCoy Hensley and Shayla Phillips each would have three hits with Hensley ripping a home run with 2 RBIs.  Lexi Vogel, Katie Davis, and Yell would each collect two hits with Vogel driving in four runs.  Atkins would lace a three run home run in her only official plate appearance but also score five runs.  Hannah Thrasher picked up the victory in relief.  She went 4 2/3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts.  Kaylee Cornelius as the starting pitcher, going 2 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs (1 earned), four hits, one walk while striking out four hitters.
