LATE INNING HEROICS HELP LADY COUGARS TO SPLIT

The Lady Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh in game one to defeat the lady Senators of Walters State 6-5.  They would have no such luck in the second game as they lost 8-2.

they would jump out on Walters in game one as Kaylee Hughes and Shayla Phillips went back to back on solo home runs in the second inning.  Walters would take a 4-2 lead in the next two innings before the Lady Cougars would tie it with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  After Walters retook the lead in the sixth, Cleveland would strike in the bottom of the seventh.  Makala Strickland would single to start the frame, and move to second as Olivia Harris reached on an error.  A Lexi Vogel single would load the bases, and katie Dinger would plate the tying run with a single up the middle.  Anna Yell would drive in Harris with the winning run on a groundout.

The Lady Cougas would have nine hits in the game with Dinger stroking three singles with 2 RBIs while Vogel would have a single and a double with one RBI.  Yell would go the distance with seven innings of work.  She would allow 5 runs (2 earned), on nine hits with two walks and three strikouts.

Walters would score three runs in the second inning, and although the Lady Cougars would get within one the guests would strike for five runs in the last three innings to secure the win.  The lady Cougars had 11 hits in the second game with Yell's thre hits leading the way.  Dinger and Strickland would each have two hits in the game.  Mcay Smith took the loss, going seven innings, surrendering 12 hits, 8 earned runs, with two walks and two strikeouts.
