LADY COUGARS SWEEP ROANE STATE; PREPARE FOR FIRST ROUND OF TOURNEY

The Lady Cougars finished off the regular season with a convincing sweep of the Lady Raiders of Roane State by scores of 6-0 and 5-3.  They earned the #3 seed in the East Division and will travel to Walters State on Friday for the first round of the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Softball Tournament.  It will be a best of three series with the winner advancing to the tournament "Final Four" in Gallatin on May 9-11 hosted by Volunteer State.

The Lady Cougars struck early and quick as they scored five runs in the first two innings.  That would be all Anna Yell would need as she went the distance for the win with the three-hit shutout.  She would walk three and strike out five batters.  She also helped her own cause with a single and double and four RBIs.  Katie Dinger would stroke three singles and score three times in the game while Lexi Vogel would bang out two safeties and score twice.

In game two, McCoy Hensley, Amber Atkins, and Kaylee Hughes each would have two hits in the game.  Hensley would have a double with two RBIs while Atkins would rip a two-run home run, and Kaylee Hughes would add a solo shot an inning later for all five runs.  Macy Smith would go the distance, surrendering three runs (two earned) on seven hits.  She would have eight strikeouts with no walks in the game.
