LADY COUGARS SEASON ENDS IN TOURNEY QUARTERS

The Cleveland State softball team's season came to a crashing end as Walters State exploded offensively and won both games by scores of 11-3 and 12-0.  The only highlight of the day came off the bat of Shayla Phillips, who blasted a 3-run homer in the first game.

Walters had built a 4-0 lead through the first three innings in the first game before Phillips brought the Lady Cougars within one in the top of the fourth inning.  The Lady Senators would tack on one run in the bottom of the inning, two more in the fifth,a nd then end the game with four in the sixth frame.  Cleveland had only three hits in the game with Katie Dinger and Amber Atkins slapping out singles in the game.  Anna Yell took the loss, surrendering all 11 earned runs on 16 hits and two walks while striking out only two hitters.

The Lady Senators were ahead 3-0 in the second game when they exploded for seven runs in the third inning to essentially put the game out of reach.  The Lady cougars managed only two hits in the game with McCoy Hensley with a single,  and Katie Davis with a double.  Macy Smith took the loss, surrendering 10 of the 12 runs on 8 hits and four walks.
