It is tournament time in Tennessee as the Lady Cougars head to host Dyersburg State as the third seed of the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Basketball Tournament. With an overall record of 16-5 and a conference mark of 12-4 the ladies will open their part of the single elimination tournament on Sunday, February 27, at 8:00pm (CST) against the number six seed Columbia State Chargers.

On the season, Cleveland State swept the Lady Chargers by scores of 68-60, and 64-62. Asjah Harrell led the way in the first game with 17 points while Emma Harig tossed in 20 in the second victory.  Michaela Bennefield was the leading rebounder in both games with 11 and 16, respectively.

As a team, the Lady Cougars averaged 70 points a game with a field goal percentage of 40.4%.  In their 21 games, they have rebounded as game clip of 36.5, 11.5 assists, and a free throw percentage of 65.2%.

Individually, Harrell is fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game, and fourth in the league with an average of 3.9 assists a game.  Bennefield was second in the conference 8.7 rebounds.  Lastly, Harrell and Nicky Jones were first and second in steals per game.

Cleveland State's opponent, the Lady Chargers of Columbia State averaged 61.6 points a contest with field goal percentage of 40.8%.  They rebounded at an average of 31.6 a game, 10.6 assists, and a free throw percentage of 61.9%.

To move onto the National Tournament, the Lady Cougars will have to win three games in a row.  Their side of the schedule bracket includes Jackson State, Volunteer State, and the 2nd seed, Chattanooga State.  They defeated Jackson and Volunteer twice, and lost to Chattanooga in the only game they played.
