Lady Cougars Advance in TCCAA Tournament With Win

Lady Cougar Basketball Beats Columbia State…Moves to Semi-Final


The top four seeds held serve at the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament on Sunday, February 27 as the number three seed Cleveland State Lady Cougars beat Columbia State 71-65 setting up a semi-final rematch of last year vs. Chattanooga State.

With a 27-point first quarter, Cleveland State would lead after each quarter paced by Michaela Bennefield's 22 points and game high 18 rebounds and Emma Harig's 21 points and 12 rebounds.  Starters Asjah Harrell and Kyisha Dalton each had nine points while Nicky Jones had seven.  Harrell also dished out four assists with three steals.

Tomorrow, February 28, at 9 p.m. EST the Lady Cougars will face off against number two seed Chattanooga State.  This is the second year in a row when both teams will be playing each other in the semi-finals.  Prior to the rematch, number one seed Walters State plays number four seed Roane State with the winners of both semi's moving on to the championship game.

The championship game is set for Tuesday, March 1 at 5 p.m. EST on the campus of tournament host school Dyersburg State.
