Eight runs in each game of the doubleheader between Cleveland State and Snead State on Monday February 20 were the number of runs scored by the winning team as the Cougars won game one 8-2 and lost the second 8-3.  With an overall record of 3-3 Cleveland State goes on the road Wednesday February 22 to play Georgia Highlands in a doubleheader with game times scheduled for 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. in Cartersville Georgia.

 

Game One Recap

 

Hadley Burnette pitched the complete game victory in game one putting her season record at 2-0 as the Cougars scored two in the first never losing the lead on the game. Carlynn Atamaniuk singled stole second and scored on a two run homerun off the bat of Shelby Sullivan for a 2-0 lead. 

 

Snead scored one in the third inning but Cleveland State answered back aggressively with five runs in their half of the third.  Abby Starnes led off with a homerun followed by inning RBI's from Kristen Fowler, two by Lexi Vogel and finally a run scoring wild pitch plating Taylor Hancock.

 

In the sixth Snead scored a single run that was matched by the Cougars in the bottom of the sixth when Abby Starnes drove home Vogel who had singled and stole second.  Cleveland State had nine hits on the game, two each by Starnes, Fowler and Vogel with Atamaniuk, Sullivan and Abby Young each with one.  Part of the run scoring attack included walks to Sullivan, Emily Higgins, Hancock and Vogel.

 

Game Two Recap

 

Game two was a different story as the Cougars managed three runs on seven hits as it was Snead scoring the eight runs. 

 

The Parsons scored a combined eight runs in the second, third and fourth innings while Cleveland State pushed across a single run in their half of the third and two in the bottom of the seventh.  Atamaniuk drove in all three runs with a fielder's choice and a double.

 

On the game Sullivan had two hits while Hope Ingle, Atamaniuk, Summer Burkett, Vogel and Whitney Lee had one hit each.
