Cleveland State Softball travelled to Georgia Highlands on Wednesday March 22 and came away with a doubleheader win vs Highlands winning game one 10-3 and game two 2-1 as the Cougars banged out 16 hits in the first game followed by five timely hits in the second game.  The wins moved Cleveland State to an overall record of 5-3 with conference play set to start on March 3 and March 4 vs Dyersburg State

 

Game One Recap

 

The Cougars jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the second inning never trailing in the game scoring one in the fourth another in the fifth and three each in the sixth and seventh innings.  Georgia Highlands scored their three runs with one in the fifth and two in the sixth. 

 

Hope Ingle and Abby Starnes had three RBI's each on the game while Shelby Sullivan drove home two on the strength of a homerun and a triple.  Starnes had three hits while Ingle, Carlynn Atamaniuk, Sullivan, Emily Higgins and Taylor Hancock each had two hits.  Lexi Vogel and Kristen Fowler had one hit each both leading to single RBI's as Abby Young rounded out the 16-hit attack with one of her own.

 

Bailee Phillips won her second game of the season giving up seven hits while striking out eight.

 

Game Two Recap

 

The second game showcased a throwing gem by Hadley Burnette who went the distance for her third win of the season allowing four hits and striking out seven in the Cougars 2-1 win.

 

Ingle tied the game 1-1 in the fifth with a centerfield homerun while in the sixth inning Fowler doubled home Sullivan who had started the rally with one out with a double of her own.  On the game Ingle added two walks to her homerun while Fowler was on base in each of her AB's with a double, hit by pitch and walk.  Other hits included singles by Starnes and Whitney Lee.

 

What's Next

 

Cleveland State is scheduled to travel to Boaz Alabama to play Snead State on Monday February 27.

Recently the Cougars split a home doubleheader with Snead winning the first game 8-2 while losing the second 8-3.
