Cougar Softball Wins Doubleheader vs Southwest TN Rain Wins the Other

Cleveland State travelled to Southwest Tennessee on April 28 and 29 for a final conference four game series and came away with two wins of 4-0 and 10-7 on day one with the games on day two rained out.

 

The Cougars end the regular season with a 31-16 record and conference mark of 20-11.  Cleveland State awaits the schedule for the NJCAA Regions VII set to start at Volunteer State on Sunday

May 7.

 

Game One Recap

 

Bailee Phillips went the distance in the Cougars 4-0 win striking out 10 while giving up five hits.  The win was Phillips 13th during the 2022-2023 regular season.

 

Kristen Fowler was 3-for-3 and drove in all four Cougar runs with a single in the second inning, a two-run homer in the fourth and a double in the sixth. The remaining Cleveland State hits came off the bats of Shelby Sullivan who had two including a double, with one each from Carlynn Atamaniuk, Abby Starnes and Lexi Vogel.  

 

Game Two Recap

 

Hadley Burnette won her 15th game of the regular season giving up just two earned runs in Cleveland State's 10-7 win.

 

Fowler completed a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4 with another homerun, double and two singles driving home three runs while Ally Starnes had three hits and also plated three runs.  Hope Ingle had two hits leading of the game with a homerun giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

 

Whitney Lee had two hits with two RBI's while Atamaniuk, Abby Young, Emily Higgins and Vogel with one RBI each had one.
