Cougar Softball Wins Doubleheader vs College of Lake County
After four conference wins on the weekend vs Roane State, Cleveland State played a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday March 21 vs College of Lake County and won both games 10-2 and 16-1. Kylie Hayes pitched and won both of the five inning games moving here season record to 3-0.
Currently the Cougars have an overall record of 20-5 and conference mark of 11-0.
Game One Recap… Tuesday March 21
The Cougars scored in every inning they batted with three in the first, three in the second and two each in the third and fourth with a team hit total of 12 in the 10-2 win.
Cleveland State batters with two hits on the game included Hope Ingle, Carlynn Atamaniuk, Abby Young, Shelby Sullivan and Ally Starnes. Kristen Fowler and Ally Starnes each had one. Two runs each were driven in by Ingle, Atamaniuk and Sullivan while Young, Fowler along with Ally Starnes each plated one.
Hayes struck out four while giving up four hits.
Game Two Recap… Tuesday March 21
Atamaniuk finished game two going a perfect 4-for-4 as Cleveland State banged out 19 hits in scoring 16 runs in their second five inning win of the day. Hayes twirling another five innings K'd five while allowing six hits.
The Cougars scored seven runs in the first inning, six in the third and three in the fourth. The game was highlighted by three Cleveland State homeruns coming off the bats of Ingle, Fowler and Ally Starnes. It was Starnes shot to right center that was loud as it was a Grand slam and was one of her two hits on the game.
Catcher Taylor Hancock had three hits while Ingle, Summer Burkett, Fowler and Lexi Vogel each lashed out two hits each. Sullivan had one hit driving in two runs while Caleigh White hit a two-run double in the first. Burkett's hits plated three runs while Ingle and Fowler each had two RBI's.
What's Next
Cleveland State is scheduled to be back in action on Friday March 24 and Saturday March 25 as they travel to Motlow State for conference doubleheaders on both days. Motlow has a conference record of 4-8 and an overall mark of 9-16.
