
Cougar Softball Players Set to Play in TN/GA All-Star Game
With a roster commitment of 24 players for the 2023-2024 school year Cougar Softball and Cleveland State will be well represented at the Tennessee/Georgia All-Star games scheduled to be played at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga TN on Tuesday June 13 with a 6 p.m. start. Six incoming freshmen have earned the opportunity to play in the long standing games.
Four Cougars will play for Team Tennessee: Caylan Baker a utility player from Marion County is joined by her teammate Desiree Nance who plays third base. Catcher Adasyn Wilkey from Soddy Daisy along with Ava Layne who played outfield at Whitwell complete the Cleveland State representation on Team Tennessee.
Team Georgia featuring two Cleveland State players include pitcher Ava Brown from Lafayette and Morgan Willingham who played catcher at Pepperell.
The doubleheader All-Star games started in 1998 by the late Marvin "Stump" Martin features graduating high school seniors from Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. The 25th annual event has missed one year since its inception due to COVID in 2020.
Admission for the games is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. The doubleheader played in June of 2022 was split with Tennessee winning the opening game 4-2 and Georgia taking the nightcap in five innings 10-2. Historically Tennessee leads the series with a record of 35-11-2.
