Cougar Softball Loses Four Games to Walters State
Friday April 14 and Saturday April 15 turned out to be losing days for Cleveland State Softball as they travelled to Walters State and lost four games to the Lady Senators 7-2, 9-1, 9-1 and 14-0 giving them a 16-9 conference mark and overall record of 25-14.
With eight conference contests remaining the game results dropped the Cougars to fifth place in the TCCAA standings.
Game One Recap
The Cougars managed just three hits on the game scoring one run in the first and another in the fifth as Walters State scored runs in every inning but the fourth in the 7-2 game.
Bailee Phillips had two hits while Shelby Sullivan had one as Kristen Fowler was credited with the two Cougar runs walking with the bases loaded twice. On the game Cleveland State walked eight times while striking out 16 times.
In the 9-1 loss in game two Carlynn Atamaniuk and Whitney Lee each had singles for the only Cougar hits with the lone run plated on a ground out by Sullivan.
Game Three Recap
Game three was close through the first four and a half innings as Cleveland State gave up two in the first and cut the lead in half when Phillips drove a homerun over the scoreboard in left center field. In the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings Walters scored 7 giving the Cougars a 9-1 loss in six innings.
Once again Cleveland State managed just two hits, the homerun from Phillips and single by Hope Ingle.
Game Four Recap
Sullivan and Lee were the only Cougars to bang hits in game three as Walters scored 14 runs in three innings giving the Cougars a 14-0 loss.
