Cleveland State swept Roane State this weekend.

The Cougars (25-9, 13-9) won all four games in their home conference series against the Raiders (10-22, 7-15).

Each day Kylie Hayes (12-5) pitched game one and Kadence Brewer (11-4) pitched game two in their double headers with each of them throwing complete games.

Hayes allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out three and walking two in the series opener, then allowed two earned runs again on seven hits while striking out four and walking five in game three. Brewer allowed 10 earned runs on 19 hits while striking out one and walking two in game two and allowed six earned runs on 17 hits while striking out two and walking one in the final game of the series.

Cleveland State scored one in the third, but went down three runs in the fifth inning in game one. The Cougars then put together a four-run sixth inning to take the lead holding the Raiders to a scoreless seventh inning to secure a 5-3 victory.

Layla Pettigrew and Whitney Lee each hit solo home runs. Kristen Fowler also drove in a run.

Game two was a back and forth offensive battle with the Cougars scoring the majority of their runs in the sixth again, putting up five in the bottom half of the inning. Cleveland State won the game 11-10.

Ava Layne hit a home run giving her six on the season. Six different Cougars doubled. Layne, Lee and Kendyl Phillips each finished with two RBI while Torrey Cummings, Fowler and Pettigrew each had one.

The third game of the series was also a close battle with the Cougars putting together a late rally in the fifth inning putting up four of their six runs. In the end the Raiders couldn't comeback losing 6-4.

Carissa Montgomery hit a solo home run for her first on the season. Pettigrew tripled and also drove in two runs. Morgan Willingham also had two RBI.

The final game of the series saw 30 hits total from both teams combined. The Raiders tied the game at six in the top of the sixth, but the Cougars put up two runs to take the lead in their half of the inning. Roane State scored another in the seventh, but it wasn't enough losing 8-7.

Abby Murrill doubled and tripled in the game, she is now the fourth leading hitter in the conference with a .466 batting average after the weekend. Fowler also doubled.

Layne, Willingham, and Lee each drove in two runs. Desiree Nance hit one in as well.

The Cougars were set to host Chattanooga State (23-9, 18-4) on Monday, April 8, but those games are being rescheduled to Saturday, April 20 with a noon start time.

Next up for Cleveland State is a four-game conference series road trip to Columbia State (2-26, 2-22) beginning on Friday, April 12. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
