Cleveland State brought home four wins from Columbia State.

The Cougars (29-9, 17-9) ended three of the games early via the run-rule against the Chargers (2-26, 2-30).

Game One

Cleveland State scored 10 runs with four coming in the first inning and another three in the second to start off the series.

Those runs came in on 10 hits and six Chargers errors. Kylie Hayes (13-5), coming off being named TCCAA pitcher of the week, pitched a complete game two hitter allowing one earned run while striking out six and walking two.

Torrey Cummings, Ava Layne, Morgan Willingham and Layla Pettigrew each hit homeruns. Kristen Fowler and Caleigh White doubled.

Game Two

In the only game that lasted the typical seven innings, each team was held scoreless in the first two innings.

Cleveland State then put up two runs in the third and five more in the fourth to take a comfortable lead. The Chargers scored four unanswered runs in the final two innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome their deficit.

Abby Murrill and Willingham each drove in two runs with Desiree Nance and Layne each plating one.

Kadence Brewer (12-4) earned the victory going five innings allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking three. Hayes closed out the final two innings allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out two and walking none.

Game Three

An 11 run third inning helped the Cougars enroute to an 18-4 victory in game three.

Cleveland State hit over .500 for the game going 16-30 from the plate. Willingham homered driving in five runs and Whitney Lee put two over the fence bringing home four.

Hayes (14-5) went four innings allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out three and walking four earning the victory. Maddie O'Quinn closed out the last inning allowing no runs or hits while striking out one with no walks.

Game Four

Cleveland State shutout the Chargers 12-0 to close out the series.

Brewer (13-4) went four innings allowing one hit while striking out a batter and walking two getting the win. Hayes pitched the last inning allowing one hit.

Torrey Cummings, Fowler, Willingham and Pettigrew put the ball over the fence in this one.  Pettigrew also doubled and Lee hit two of her own.  Cummings, Fowler and Willigham each drove home three. 

Next Up

When the Cougars hit the field next they play a mid-week double header on Wednesday at first place Walters State (32-6, 22-4).

In their first meeting earlier in the season on Wednesday, March 20, the Senators shutout the Cougars 5-0 in game one and doubled them up 6-3 in game two at Cleveland State. First pitch of this double header in their final meeting of the regular season is scheduled for 2 p.m.
