Cougars Lose Double Header at Chattanooga State

Cleveland State couldn't pull a win out at Chattanooga State.

Three days after the Cougars (31-13, 19-13) split two games at home against the Tigers (36-11, 27-5) knocking them out of first place, Chattanooga State was able to take two winning game one 7-2 and game two 5-2.

The Tigers didn't take long to get their offense going scoring all seven of their game one runs in the first three innings. Cleveland State did put up a couple runs, but were unable to plate enough on Chattanooga State's pitcher Emily Marks (11-4).

Marks earned the victory pitching a complete game allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out six and walking three.

Ava Layne homered, doubled and drove in a run for the Cougars. Kylie Hayes suffered the loss pitching the entire game allowing four earned runs on nine hits while walking three and not striking out a batter.

After getting just one hit a few days prior off undefeated pitcher Jessica Cord (12-0), the Cougars were able to string together seven hits in game two, but it wasn't enough for the Tigers bats.

Cord pitched a complete game allowing no earned runs while striking out four and walking two. Chattanooga State committed four errors in the game contributing to the Cougars two runs.

Whitney Lee went 2-3 doubling and scoring a run. Torrey Cummings was 2-4 and scored Cleveland State's only other run in the game.

Now the Cougars hit the road for their final series of the regular season. Cleveland State goes to Volunteer State (38-18, 22-10) for a four-game series, and with a sweep can overtake the Pioneers for the fourth-place seed heading into the conference playoff tournament. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m.
