
Cleveland State Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA All-Academic Recognition
The National Junior College Athletic Association recognized twenty Cleveland State Community College student-athletes who achieved All Academic Recognition for the 2023-24 academic year. Student Athletes are recognized in three categories, All Academic First Team, Second Team, and Third Team. All athletes had to achieve a grade cumulative point average of a minimum 3.6 and pass 24 cumulative hours for the 2023-24 academic year to receive recognition.

Student Athletes are recognized in three categories, All Academic First Team, Second Team, and Third Team. All athletes had to achieve a grade cumulative point average of a minimum 3.6 and pass 24 cumulative hours for the 2023-24 academic year to receive recognition.
Students who were named to the NJCAA First Team had to have a 4.0 grade point average for the year. Those students who achieved NJCAA All Academic First Team were sophomore softball player Kristen Fowler from Trenton, Georgia, Dade County Highschool. Kristen also received the Hugh Walker Female Student Athlete of the Year Award.
Also receiving First Team honors was Sophomore Ryan Langford from Ringgold, Georgia, Heritage Highschool who was a member of the baseball team.
Freshman being recognized as NJCAA All Academic First Team were Mackenzie Bernier from Ooltewah HS, women's basketball, Julius King, from Macon Georgia, men's basketball, Dylan Owens and Ben Sompayrac, each from Knoxville, Tennessee and a part of the baseball team.
NJCAA All Academic Second Team criteria was a grade point average of 3.80 to 3.99. The following student athletes recognized were, freshman Ava Layne who played softball and freshman Jacob Cooper, a member of the baseball team.
NJCAA All Academic Third Team criteria is a grade point average of 3.60 - 3.79. The following students receiving this recognition were sophomores Kain Collins, Cannon Stafford, Harrison Garrett and Riley Orr, who were a part of the baseball team. Men's basketball team members recognized were Caleb Chapman and Kameron Clark along with women's basketball team members sophomores Jordan McCullough and Zoe Staniszewski. Softball team members were freshman Caleigh Weaver and Morgan Willingham and sophomore Ella Johnson who played volleyball.
"The CSCC Athletic Department would like to congratulate all of the student-athletes on being recognized as NJCAA All Academic Award recipients.'" stated Athletic Director Mike Policastro. "Student-Athletes who receive such a high honor have put in many hours in the classroom as well as on the athletic fields. We are proud of their accomplishments this year."
