Cougars Softball Lose to Volunteer State in Round One of Region Tournament
Cleveland State could not get past the Pioneers in their opening round game. Volunteer State scored 10 runs with the Cougars putting up four.

Cleveland State could not get past the Pioneers in their opening round game.
Volunteer State scored 10 runs with the Cougars putting up four.
All of Cleveland State's runs came off of homers with Ava Layne, Morgan Willingham and Carissa Montgomery each putting the ball over the fence. Willingham went 3-3 on the game and was also on base scoring on Montgomery's two-run blast.
The Pioneers had just two extra base hits, but strung together 13 singles to produce their double-digit offensive performance.
Kylie Hayes (14-9) suffered the loss pitching the complete game. Laura Walker (W, 12-7) pitched the final three innings for Volunteer State picking up the win.
Next up now for the Cougars is an elimination game against the Green Jays from Jackson State.
