It took four runs in the final inning to get the Cougars to the next round.
Cleveland State defeated Jackson State 10-8 surviving their elimination game.
It was a back-and-forth battle the entire game and the Cougars were down 8-6 headed to the final frame.
Layla Pettigrew hit a solo homerun in the third inning. Abby Murrill doubled, drove in three and stole three bases in the game. Torrey Cummings also doubled, drove in a run and scored three times.
Kylie Hayes (15-9) came in relief for the final two innings shutting down the Green Jays allowing no runs or hits while striking out one to earn the victory.
Now Cleveland State waits to see who they will play next. Their next game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7 with a 6:30p.m. eastern/5:30p.m. central first pitch. A win will make them one of the final four teams left in the tournament.
