Box Score

Women's Basketball started their conference season slate strong on Saturday night, earning a dominating 80-56 win at Vol State.

Though the Lady Cougars struggled in the first half, they had a much better second frame to pull away from the Lady Pioneers. Cassidy Nihoff was a key player off of the bench for Cleveland State, scoring 10 points and also providing a defensive boost with six rebounds and three steals. "She gave off the spark we needed to pull away," said head coach Evelyn Thompson of her efforts.

Britnay Gore led both offensively and on the boards. She scored a career-best 26 points and also chipped in 15 rebounds. Asjah Harrell set her teammates up exceptionally in the contest, dishing out a career-high 10 assists while scoring 17 points of her own. Charisma Barner also contributed double-digit points with 10 and grabbed eight boards.

"It is good to start conference play with a win," Thompson said of the victory.

The Lady Cougars will travel to Roane State in their next game on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 ET.
