
Lady Cougs Earn Clutch, Crucial Win on Sophomore Day
Women's Basketball closed out their regular season with an exclamation point on Saturday, defeating Dyersburg State 85-81 in overtime on their home floor Sophomore Day Saturday.
The Lady Eagles led by as many as 10 midway through the third quarter, but the Lady Cougars came storming back with a big fourth quarter push to reach overtime, courtesy of Asjah Harrell free throws which gave Cleveland State 70 points and eventually head into extra time at 70-70. They never looked back after overtime, dominating the period to get the win.
All three sophomores played a huge role in the victory, each posting double-digit point totals. Charisma Barner scored 17 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out two assists. Britnay Gore posted 15 points of her own while securing another double-double with 10 rebounds and also recording three assists, two blocks and a steal. Za'kkria Robinson scored 14 and grabbed 10 boards to post a double-double of her own, also recording a steal. Both Gore and Robinson tied the game-high in rebounds.
Harrell also came up big for the Lady Cougars, posting team-highs in points with 29, assists with and steals with five.
The win was crucial for now 16-10 Cleveland State, as it allowed them to sweep the two game regular-season series with Dyersburg State as well as tie the two teams at 12-6 in conference a piece, earning the Lady Cougars the three seed going into the conference tournament. They will find out their tournament fate scheduled for Feb. 28-Mar. 3 in Columbia State. Stay tuned to cscougars.com for postseason updates.
