Women's Basketball upped their winning streak to three games on Saturday afternoon, defeated Gadsden State in Gadsden, Ala. 84-79. They have also won six of their last eight games to bring their record to 7-5.

Of late, the Lady Cougars have dealt with some major issues related to injuries which have depleted their roster. "These injuries have really impacted the game and we also had two players foul out to only have five available," said head coach Evelyn Thompson. "But we pulled together and the next woman up came through for us today."

Thompson especially highlighted the late-game heroics of Kyeshia Dalton and Asjah Harrell. Dalton came up with a steal and a tough offensive rebound down the stretch, while Harrell had a key three pointer to help seal the deal for Cleveland State. Harrell also had a team-high 28 points in the contest.

"Everyone came in and contributed, whether it was two points or 28 points," she said. "I was proud of the way we played tonight. This was truly a team effort."

Defense was also key for the Lady Cougars. While they did give up 79 points, they were able to contain the Lady Cardinals in key situations.

Thompson also wanted to recognize Michaela Bennefield, who had a successful surgery yesterday evening. "Definitely want to show her some love," she said. "She's resting in Atlanta. We were able to FaceTime with her before and after the game. She's in good spirits!"

You can catch Women's Basketball in action again on Saturday, Jan. 4 as they play host to Gadsden State at 2:00 ET.
