Cleveland State welcomed nationally ranked Wallace State to their gym for their volleyball home season opener.
The Cougars couldn't pull out the win, but were able to take a set, losing 3-1.
"I am really proud of the effort we put up tonight," head coach Peyton McDaniel said. "Still settling into a new lineup and taking a set off of a ranked opponent is a huge step in the right direction for us."
Wallace State took the first set 25-22, then the Cougars came back taking set two by the same score. Wallace State went on a run the final two sets winning 25-14 and 25-12 to take the match.
"Being able to play at home in front of friends and family created a good atmosphere for us and we're looking forward to building off of tonight going forward," McDaniel said.
Cleveland State's next game will again be at home with this one being their final tune up before heading into conference play next week. The Cougars hit the court again this Wednesday, September 4 hosting Reinhardt University's JV team with the game time set to start at 6 p.m.
