Peyton McDaniel picked up her first win as a collegiate head coach.
The Cougars (1-6, 0-2) played three games in two days with Cleveland State winning the final match against Bryan College in a 3-0 shutout, picking up their first victory of the season.
"I keep telling the girls that the first win can sometimes be the hardest one to get and now that we have it, we can build on that momentum," head coach Peyton McDaniel said. "I am very excited that they now have the feeling of winning to chase each night."
Zowee Dillard led the way in the win with 21 kills to go along with 10 assists and five digs. Elanee Cotter added nine kills of her own. Avianna Williams finished with a game high 24 assists. Cotter, Isabella Messer and Marissa Ray combined for forty-four digs to help in the win.
Prior to the Cougars win over Bryan College they played Covenant College in the first game of a double header with the Scots pulling it out in the fifth set. Dillard finished the game with a triple double putting together 17 kills, 19 assists and 16 digs.
The day before the double header Cleveland State went to Roane State (10-5, 2-0) losing in straight sets 3-0. The Raiders currently stand alone in first place in the conference.
"We expected a talented Roane State team, but also didn't show up playing our best volleyball either," McDaniel said. "Again, we went into a match with a new line up due to injuries, but we also didn't perform at our best. I am very proud of how the team responded to our loss and came out determined to redeem themselves."
The Cougars return home for their next game hosting a conference match against Chattanooga State (11-6, 0-1) Tuesday, September 24 with game time set for 6:30 p.m.
