The CSCC Cougars outlasted Motlow College on Wednesday after five lead changes, squeaking out a 6-4 win at Chattanooga State Community College, in their first game of the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Baseball Tournament
The Cougars pulled out the win thanks to a strong third inning. A sacrifice fly by Anthony Hunt scored Caleb Longley to give the Cougars the lead for good.
Freshman right-hander Drew Korzybski (5-3) picked up the win for the Cougars pitching seven innings allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out two and issuing tw o walks. Colton Morgan earned the save while pitching two innings and not allowing a base runner.
The Cougars would not relinquish the lead as Motlow College was unable to weather a three-run third inning deficit.
Motlow College scored on an RBI double by Spencer Mossburg in the fifth inning and a groundout by Darren White in the eighth inning. Despite its efforts, Motlow College couldn't finish the comeback.
The Cougars advanced to meet Walters State Thursday afternoon, at Chattanooga State.
