Cleveland State waited a while to get it going last night.

The Cougars were down from the opening tip against Calhoun Community College, losing by 14 points with 15 minutes left, but then turned the switch on going on a 41-19 run to end the game winning 81-73.

"I thought we played hard at times, we've got some work to do for sure on both ends of the floor," head coach Rafael Howard said. "We knew Calhoun would bring the pressure and at times we showed poise and toughness."

Cleveland State took the lead for the first time with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

Staishaun Kelley and Julius King, Jr. led the charge down the stretch. Kelley scored a game high 25 points with King adding another 22.

"I was pleased with Shaun and his leadership on the floor," Howard said. "I thought Julius played well and held us in with his ability to score from all over."

Thaddeus Johnson and Kameron Clark also scored in double figures.

Cleveland State (2-0) takes a week off before heading to Chattanooga State (2-0) to open up conference play Wednesday, November 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
