Cougars Split Season Series with Calhoun Community College

Cleveland State dropped their game at Calhoun Community College, splitting the home-and-home season series.

The Cougars (5-3, 2-2) took their first meeting back on November 7, 81-73, but couldn't pull it out at the Warhawks place losing 81-62.

"Our lack of consistency defensively hurt us," head coach Rafael Howard said. "I thought we played well early, but couldn't make enough plays to win the game."

Cleveland State went into halftime down thirteen, but put a dent into the deficit in the second half.

The Cougars shooting may have cost them in this game going 60 percent from the free-throw line and 14.3 percent from three-point land while the Warhawks finished 82.1 percent from the charity stripe and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

"In the second half, we cut the lead to eight or nine points but couldn't get any closer," Howard said. "When you miss free throws and turn the ball over, it makes it tough to win."

The Cougars Kameron Clark scored a game high 19 points with Julius King, Jr. also putting up double figures with 14. Calhoun Community College had three players score over ten points.

"We're learning, we'll keep teaching and working in preparation for next week," Howard said.

The Cougars will be back in action two more times this calendar year before taking off for winter breaker leading into the second half of their season.

Cleveland State will face Wallace State Community College-Hanceville at home this Tuesday, December 12 with tip-off at 7:30 p.m. The two will meet again at Wallace State Community College on Saturday, December 16.
