Cougars Open 2021 Home Slate With Late-Inning Thriller

Cleveland State Baseball split a pair of games at Cougar Field with Columbia State on Sunday afternoon. The result of today's games brings the Cougars to 2-2 overall on the season.

 

Game 1-

In the first game of the set, the Cougars defeated the Chargers in a 4-3 thriller. The Cougars trailed 3-1 entering the seventh inning until Lance Dockery drove in both Bryce Jenkins and Matt Schultz to tie the game at three runs a piece. Dockery then scored the game winning run on an error after stealing third and was one-for-two with two RBI, a run scored and two walks in the game.

Jacob Robinson had the Cougars' other RBI and was one-for-three with a run scored in the contest. Pitching-wise, Dayton Wisley provided the Cougars with a solid outing as their starter with five innings of three run, two strikeout baseball. Jared Young earned the win out of the bullpen, tossing two innings while allowing no runs and striking out two batters.

 

Game 2-

In the second game of the doubleheader, Cleveland State fell 15-4 in five innings. Dockery recorded a multi-hit game, going two-for-three from the plate with two runs scored. Caden Smith also drove in a run for the Cougars, going one-for-three from the plate, while Stokes Needham was one-for-two with a run scored.

Cleveland State will be back in action on Wednesday as they play host to Volunteer State. The doubleheader with the Pioneers is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
