Cleveland State Baseball split a doubleheader with Vincennes University on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1-

In the first game, the Cougars shutout the Blazers 7-0. Designated hitter Lance Dockery led the way, going two-for-four with two RBI and a home run. Right fielder Stokes Needham, catcher Ryan McCarthy, first baseman Reese Plemons, third baseman Jacob Robinson and left fielder Kenny Naysmith also had an RBI and a hit each in the contest, while center fielder Chase Dubet posted a multi-hit game, going two-for-three with a run scored.

Bryce Jenkins had a solid day on the mound, pitching a six-inning, three hit, ten strikeout shutout. He earned his first win of the season in the effort. Javier Favela came in in relief, throwing a perfect inning with a strikeout.

GAME 2-

The second game came down to the wire, with Cleveland State suffering a 6-5 defeat. The game was tied at five all in the sixth inning, but Vincennes was able to plate a run in the seventh inning to take the final advantage on the scoreboard.

The top of the order was the Cougars' main contributor offensively in the contest. Shortstop J.D. Day, Needham, catcher Caden Smith and third baseman Brandon Lejeune all had an RBI to help plate four of the five Cleveland State runs. Left fielder Yousany Herrera-Valdes also drove in a run in the game.

Kaleb Orr made the start and pitched well for the Cougars, allowing just one earned run and striking out five batters in five and two-thirds innings.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Chattanooga State in their first two conference games of the season. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
