COUGARS SWEEP RAIDERS ON THE ROAD

The Cougars took to the road Saturday afternoon for important conference games against the Raiders of Roane State.  They came away successful, winning the first one 5-3 after trailing 3-0, and then scoring six runs in the last three innings to win 12-4.

Roane State would take a 3-0 lead in the thrid inniing on a two out single and a two run error by the Cougars.  They would get a run back in the fifth when Jacob Robinson would blast a solo shot.  Then, in the  sixth inning the Cougars would plate four runs as Ryan McCarthy would score on a Cal Cook double.  Cook would then come around on a Kenny Naysmith single.  Chase Dubet, inserted as a pinch runner, would score on a single by Yousany Herrera-Valdes.  He would then score on a Matt Schultz sacrifice fly.  

Cleveland had nine hits in the game with Cook and Herrara-Valdes each collecting two apiece.  Bryce Jenkins would go the distance for the win as he surrendered three runs (one earned), five hits, six walks with eight strikeouts.

Cleveland would trail again in the second game as the Raiders posted single runs in the first and second innings.  They would tie it in the third on a Lance Dockery double to score J.D. Day and a McCarthy single to score Dockery.  With the score knotted at 3, the Cougars broke open on a McCarthy three-run double in the seventh, and then added four more on a bases loaded walk, a tow run single by MCCarthy and an error.  They would add two more insurance runs in the ninth on a Jenkins double who would score after stealing third base.

The Cougars had 11 hits in game two with McCarthy doing the most damage with four hits and 6 RBIs.  Day and Courtney Payne each had two hits.  Jenkins would score four runs, and Dockery would score three with 2 RBIs.  Three pitchers would hold the Raiders to four earned runs on 10 hits.  They would strike out 12 batters and walk two in the win.
