COUGARS SPLIT DH AGAINST TIGERS

The cougars exploded for four runs in te top of the ninth inning to salvage a split with the Tigers of Chattanooga State Friday afternoon as they won 6-5 after losing the first game by an 8-1 final.  It puts their overall record at 15-18 with a conference record of 8-12 with two weeks remaining in the regular season schedule.

The Cougars managed only five hits in the first game as Lance Dockery had two hits and Jacob Roberson had an RBI single.  Bryce jenkins took the pitching loss as he went the first 2 and 1/3 innings, surrendering four runs, four hits with two walks. Dayton Wisley came on in relief and gave up four runs, surrendering four runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

In game two, Cleveland saw themselves down 5-1 going into the final two innings.  They would strike for a single run in the eight inning before taking the lead in the ninth.  Robinson would lead off with a double and come in to score on a Tate Daniels single.  He would score later on a Dockery single.  J.D. Day would score the tying run on a fielder's choice.  Dockery would then score the go ahead run on a Yousanny Herrera-Valdes single.  The Cougars banged out 15 hits in the second game as Herrera-Valdes had four hits in the game with a triple.  Daniels would stroke three hits while Dockery, Day, and Robinson each had two hits.  Owen Clark would get the win in relief as he went 2 and 2/3 innings giving up up no runs on one hit and one walk.  Daniel Crabtree would would work the final inning for the save with a walk and two strikeouts.
