Offenses Story of Series as Cougs Host Tigers

Cleveland State Baseball played to a doubleheader split with Chattanooga State in their first conference games of 2021 on Wednesday afternoon.

 

GAME 1-

The Cougars won big in the first game, defeating the Tigers 11-5. It was a huge day offensively for catcher Ryan McCarthy and left fielder Bryce Jenkins, who both tallied four RBI in the contest. McCarthy, additionally, went three-for-three with a run scored, a home run, and a walk in total, while Jenkins was two-for-three with two runs scored and a home run. Center fielder Lance Dockery and right fielder Stokes Needham also drove in a run for Cleveland State.

On the mound, Daniel Crabtree earned the win while striking out a career-best 10 batters in five and two thirds innings pitched. Dayton Wisley came in and threw one and a third innings of relief, allowing no runs and recording a strikeout.

 

GAME 2-

The Cougars then suffered a 9-2 loss in the second game of their doubleheader with Chattanooga State. Designated hitter Kenny Naysmith drove in both of the Cleveland State runs, also going one-for-three with a run scored. Needham had a multi-hit game for the Cougars, going two-for-three at the plate. 

On the mound, Javier Favela continued his great work on the season, tossing two innings with no earned runs allowed and striking out two batters. Zane Guess also pitched well, throwing a perfect inning with a strikeout.

 

Cleveland State will be back in action on Saturday as they continue their homestand, welcoming Motlow State. Their doubleheader with the Bucks is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
